BANKY AND GAY
Nigerian R&B singer, Banky W has reacted to rumours about his sexuality.
The singer mentioned this during an interview he granted to Y! Magazine, saying ‘It’s hilarious to me and completely false. I’m not. Maybe it’s because I’m not married, and I practice safe sex and thus have no children yet.’
Speaking on his political ambitions, the EME label boss confessed his desire to constantly throw his weight behind candidates he believes in, since he can’t run for office himself ‘…our constitution states that you have to have been born in Nigeria to qualify. I wasn’t, so I don’t qualify anyway. I figure my time will be better spent throwing as much support behind candidates that I feel should be the ones leading the country’, he said.
Banky W and his label mates recently released an all-star album titled ‘Empire Mates State of Mind’ and are currently on a U.S tour that will end on Sunday, September 2, 2012.

When Pink arrived in the pop-music universe at the turn of the century, complete with her outsize personality and matching fluorescent spiked hair, it was a welcome change from the formulated pop personas seen in of her contemporaries, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And furthermore, throughout her career, the woman born Alecia Moore has continually refused to remain stagnant, always evolving with each album she drops; transforming herself from the girl we wanted to party with to the one we could readily turn to for a word of inspiration. With a new album, The Truth About Love, set to be released this fall, we’re looking back at the undeniably impressive career of Pink for this edition of Flashback Friday.

Jane Austen ring brings $236,000
- A turquoise ring once belonging to British classics author Jane Austen sold at auction for 152,450 pounds ($236,557) this week, more than five times its pre-sale estimate, Sotheby's said on Tuesday.
The gold ring,
featuring an oval turquoise gemstone, generated a battle between eight
bidders and was eventually bought by an anonymous private collector over
the phone, the auction house said.
"Jane Austen's
simple and modest ring is a wonderfully intimate and evocative
possession. The price achieved today and the huge level of interest it
has generated, is a remarkable testament to the author's enduring appeal
and her place at the heart of our literary and cultural heritage," Dr. Gabriel Heaton, Sotheby's manuscripts specialist, said in a statement.
Austen
is one of Britain's most famous authors of the 19th century who
captured the nuances of English gentry in novels such as "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility," which have become classics in English literature.
Last year, the
earliest surviving Austen manuscript, a hand-written draft of a book
that was never published, sold for $1.6 million at a Sotheby's auction.
Other items in the
auctioneer's English literature, history, children's books and
illustrations sale included early editions of works by William Shakespeare, Charlotte Bronte and Geoffrey Chaucer, water colors by Beatrix Potter and letters from Jonathan Swift.
The auction
generated more than 1.5 million pounds ($2.4 million), with many of the
items selling above their pre-sale estimates, Sotheby's said.
VALENTINO FASH
FROM THE FASHION WORLD
Rumors had been swirling around for days, but on July 12 it was confirmed that Italian luxury label Valentino has been sold to the royal family of Qatar for an estimated $858 million.
Mayhoola, an investment group controlled by Qatar's royal family,
explained its vision for the fashion house -- which was founded in 1959
by namesake Valentino Garavani and is famed for its ultra feminine
frocks.
"Valentino has always been a brand of unique creativity and undisputed prestige," said a Mayhoola spokesperson in a release.
"Our vision is to back management
for the long term to exploit the full potential of this exciting brand.
We believe Valentino is ideally suited to form the basis for a global
luxury goods powerhouse."
Meanwhile, Valentino chief
executive officer Stefano Sassi added the new investors will help the
brand "reach its full potential."
As well as acquiring Valentino, the Qatar group also reportedly picked up the M Missoni license, while the Qatar Luxury Group, owned by the Qatar Foundation, acquired French leather goods company Le Tanneur last year.
Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, the glamorous wife of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,
was behind the creation of the Qatar Luxury Group in 2008, and is
considered to be one of the world's biggest couture collectors..
